To keep your vehicle driving smoothly and safely, your suspension needs to stay in strong health. When you first notice a symptom of suspension failure, you’ll want to get to the shop so a thorough inspection can be conducted. At Pinnacle Automotive, our local mechanics are experts at diagnosing and repairing suspension problems. Come and see when you notice any of the following symptoms.

Warning Signs of Suspension Trouble

One of the more familiar signs of a suspension problem is that your vehicle starts bouncing heavily when you go over any little bump. If there are clunking sounds when you drive across rough terrain, then there’s a good chance you have a faulty spring. A bad spring can also cause your vehicle to sit lower in the relevant corner.

While braking, signs of suspension failure may become apparent. With a suspension problem, your car may take more time to come to a rest after you start trying to bring it to a stop. Suspension trouble can also cause a nose-diving sensation during the braking process.

You’ll want to be mindful of a few other common symptoms of suspension failure. With a bad suspension, it may feel like your car is drifting when you go around corners, even when driving at a moderate speed. Also, if your shocks have oil leaking out onto them, then they’ll likely need to be replaced. And with suspension trouble, your tire tread may wear down unevenly, leading to the formation of bald spots.

Doesn’t Pass the Bounce Test
If you suspect that your suspension isn’t working optimally, you can do a quick test to help you get a better idea. You’ll first want to make sure that your car is securely parked and not at risk of rolling. Then, head to the front end and press down on it with all of your power, before rocking it twice and letting go. After that, go to the back of the car and repeat this step. When you release, there’s cause for concern if your car rocks more than three times on its own. This means you should have a mechanic inspect your suspension.
